I have found that when serving fried cabbage as a side dish, grilled steak and onions go extremely well as a main course. The same goes with grilled chicken and pineapple. Virtually any good quality meat dish of a beef or chicken variety will go well with fried cabbage and make a complete meal under frugal circumstances. Personally I would want to serve either meal with a green bean casserole to round off the dinner and a nice simple fruit dessert to offset the greasy aspects of two out of three courses of the meal in question.

The best advice I can give you is to go with what you like and adding fried cabbage to it as a side dish will add depth and flavor to your meals.
